The Church remembers Martyr Charitina of Amisus and Hieromartyr Hermogenes the Wonderworker, Bishop of Samos.
Saint Charitina of Amisus lived during the time of intense persecution, under Emperor Diocletian’s rule. Despite being a slave, she bravely confessed her faith in the Lord, enduring torture and remaining steadfast in her belief in Christ.
Hieromartyr Hermogenes the Wonderworker was born in Myra, Asia Minor, and later became a bishop in Constantinople. When ordered to renounce Christianity, he faced brutal torture and was ultimately beheaded for his unwavering faith.
His body, wrapped in his vestments, was thrown into the sea by Christians to prevent desecration. Miraculously, his body washed ashore in Cyprus, where a church was built in his honor.
These saints serve as examples of Christ’s constant support and salvation in the face of adversity. By studying the Gospel and remaining faithful to the Orthodox Church, we can strengthen our own faith in the Lord.
