The Church commemorates Prophet Zechariah, Greatmartyr Theodore Stratelates, and Saint Makarios, Bishop of Paphos.
Saint Theodore Stratelates, originally from Euchaita and residing in Heraclea Pontica, was a courageous soldier who rose to a high rank in the army. Despite his bravery, he was also known for his modesty, reflecting his true Christian values.
During Emperor Licinius’s visit to Heraclea, he was impressed by Theodore and upon learning of his Christian faith, demanded that he make sacrifices to the idols. However, Theodore refused and even distributed valuable items from the temples to the needy.
Despite facing threats, Saint Theodore remained steadfast in his beliefs, leading to his expulsion from the army, torture, and eventual beheading.
Saint Makarios, Bishop of Paphos, who passed away in AD 1688, is also honored today for his contributions to the Church.
