The Church celebrates the Feast of Great-martyr Barbara.
Saint Barbara, who lived in the 3rd century AD, was the daughter of one of the wealthiest pagans in Heliopolis, Egypt.
After being introduced to the Christian faith by a devout Christian, Barbara’s father tried to restrain her when he learned of her conversion. Despite his efforts, Barbara courageously escaped and sought refuge in caves.
Eventually captured and brought before the regional governor, Barbara endured torture, exile, and ultimately martyrdom at the hands of her own father, remaining steadfast in her faith in Jesus Christ until the end.
