The Orthodox Church today commemorates six disciples from the Seventy Apostles. Saint Stachys, ordained by Apostle Andrew, was the first Bishop of the Church of Byzantium. Saint Apelles became Bishop of Heraclea and played a significant role in the Christian mission.
Saints Amplias and Urban, also ordained bishops by Apostle Andrew, served in Odessos (Varna) and Macedonia, respectively. They converted many to Christianity and were later martyred. Saint Narcissus, Bishop of Athens, also became a martyr, while Saint Aristobulus was known for his captivating words during his mission.
Traditionally believed to be Apostle Barnabas’ brother, Saint Aristobulus traveled throughout the Roman Empire, particularly in Britannia, where he was the first Bishop. Today, we honor these disciples and apostles, seeking their intercession in our lives as they spread the teachings of Christ to all nations.
