The passing of Vardis Vardinogiannis, a distinguished Cretan businessman, was deeply mourned by Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa. Vardis was known for his pioneering spirit, philanthropy, and dedication to traditional Hellenic Orthodox values. A memorial service was held on November 14, 2024, at the Holy Patriarchal Chapel to pray for his soul.
Pope Theodore II also sent a Patriarchal Letter to Vardis Vardinogiannis’ children and close family, offering his heartfelt condolences:
Dear children and family of Vardis Vardinogiannis, may the grace, mercy, and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. We are deeply saddened by the loss of your beloved father—a respected member of your family and a pillar of the Cretan community. Our prayers are with him, asking for his soul to find eternal rest.
Vardis Vardinogiannis, alongside his late wife Marianna Vardinogianni, established a family rooted in Orthodox values and patriotism. You, as the inheritors of this legacy, carry forward the moral principles that guided his philanthropic work and entrepreneurial endeavors. Our condolences go out to you, and we pray for his soul to find peace among the Saints.
May the Lord grant you comfort, health, and strength during this difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
With blessings,
† Theodore II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria
