On Saturday, 24 May 2024, a total of 227 catechumens were baptized at the Kintamali Missionary Centre in a ceremony attended by Metropolitan Theophanis of Moldova and Bishop Agathonikos of Arusha.
Believers and catechumens from all the parishes of the Iringa district gathered at the missionary center early in the morning to witness the baptisms. Despite the scorching African sun, the anticipation of Pentecost filled the air, and both children and parents patiently awaited their encounter with Christ.
The embrace of Orthodoxy by entire families, who then bring their infants for baptism, is a heartening sight. This strong tradition, fueled by the Grace of God, is expected to endure for generations, firmly establishing Orthodoxy in the land of Tanzania.
Following the Baptism sacrament, a grand reception was held for over 600 attendees, generously provided by anonymous donors of the Missionary Shelter “Saint Dionysios of Olympus.”
