A meeting took place today between the newly appointed President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and Patriarch John of Antioch, reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting unity and stability in Lebanon.
Patriarch John, accompanied by Metropolitans of the Patriarchate, visited President Aoun in Beirut to extend his warm congratulations. During their discussion, the Patriarch expressed his wishes for the President’s success and hoped that he would be a “symbol of unity for the Lebanese people.”
The Patriarch emphasized the importance of strength and stability during times of crisis, offering prayers for divine guidance for President Aoun in his efforts to work for the nation’s welfare and the prosperity of its citizens.
As a gesture of honor and respect, Patriarch John presented President Aoun with an icon of the Virgin Mary, symbolizing divine guidance in fulfilling his responsibilities.
It is noteworthy that Patriarch John had previously conveyed his support for President Aoun through a congratulatory message following his election. In his message, the Patriarch underscored the significance of unity and leadership, recognizing the trust placed by the Lebanese people in the President’s capabilities. He also highlighted the Lebanese Army, under President Aoun’s leadership before his election, as a symbol of stability and hope for the nation.
