The Patriarchate of Jerusalem announced that Archimandrite Ierotheos Sifakis, Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Abba Theodosios the Coenobiarch, passed away at the age of ninety-four on Tuesday, 28th January 2025, at 5:00 PM. He hailed from Mahaira of Crete.
Archimandrite Ierotheos arrived in the Holy Land during the time of the late Patriarch of Jerusalem, Timotheos, and dedicated over forty years of service as the Hegumen of the Holy Monastery of Abba Theodosios the Coenobiarch.
During his tenure, he undertook significant renovations, marble work, and iconography in the Monastery’s Katholikon. He also expanded the accommodations for monks and pilgrims, safeguarded the monastery’s property, and warmly welcomed and assisted pilgrims in need.
A Trisagion was conducted in the Monastery and Patriarchal Church of Saints Constantine and Helen to honor his memory upon his passing. His funeral service is scheduled for 12:00 PM tomorrow at the Monastery of Abba Theodosios.
Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem has appointed Archimandrite Evdokimos, Spiritual Father of the Lavra of Saint Sabas the Sanctified, and his team to oversee the monastery in the wake of Archimandrite Ierotheos’ passing.
