Israel is set to implement a new requirement for travelers from visa-exempt countries, including the United States, starting August 1. The electronic travel authorization program, known as ETA-IL, will require travelers to apply online through a designated website at least 72 hours before their trip. Failure to obtain authorization will result in travelers being unable to board their flights to Israel.
The program, which includes a fee of NIS 25 ($7), is similar to those implemented by other Western nations in recent years. Its purpose is to screen out potential security threats and individuals who may violate visa restrictions. The authorization, once granted, will be valid for two years and allow multiple entries of up to 90 days.
Citizens or permanent residents of Israel from visa-exempt countries are exempt from the new requirement. However, travelers from nonexempt countries will still need to go through the traditional visa application process.
This change aligns Israel with other countries that have similar programs in place to enhance security measures and streamline the entry process for travelers. It is important for affected travelers to be aware of this new requirement and apply for authorization in advance to avoid any travel disruptions.
