On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Holy Metropolis of Samos celebrated the Saints of the Greek island of Samos with great ecclesiastical splendor. This celebration honored Saints Hermogenes, Leon, and Heraklion, Bishops of Samos; Saint George the Neomartyr; Saint Paul Latrinos; the Holy military martyrs Gregory, Theodore, and Leon; and the Holy Kollyvades Fathers.
The festivities began on Saturday, August 3, with a festive Hierarchical Vespers at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas of Samos, led by Metropolitan Eusevios of Samos. Following the Vespers, a procession of the Holy Relics and Icons of the Saints took place along the waterfront of Samos, accompanied by the Artoklasia and a Holy Sermon by Metropolitan Eusevios.
On Sunday, August 4, the Matins Service (Orthros) and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy were held at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas of Samos, presided over by Metropolitan Eusevios. During the Liturgy, Fr. Anastasios Kokonos was ordained as a presbyter.
Prior to the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a memorial service was conducted for the souls of emigrant Samians worldwide. It was decided that the Sunday of the Saints of Samos would be dedicated to these emigrants.
On Sunday evening, the Holy Metropolis organized a festive gathering and island festival in honor of the emigrants of Samos. This event, held at the Port of Samos in front of Pythagoras Square, featured performances by the children’s and youth choir “Evodia.”
The celebrations were attended by priests of the Metropolis, as well as political and military authorities of the island. Expatriate Samians from various countries such as Australia, America, Canada, Africa, Athens, and Thessaloniki also participated, along with other guests, adding to the grandeur and joy of the occasion.
