LAST UPDATE 14:35
In the early hours of the morning, throngs of individuals converged upon the Holy Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem, eagerly awaiting the ceremony of the Holy Light.
Amidst heightened security measures, the atmosphere was tense, overshadowed by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Following an announcement from the Patriarchate of Jerusalem, strict regulations limited the attendance to approximately 4,200 individuals within the Church of the Resurrection for the Holy Light Ceremony. This decision was made in consultation with Theodosius Mitropoulos, the Church’s Architect, and Nagib Naser, representing the Franciscan Brotherhood.
At approximately 14:00, Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem made his entrance into the temple, accompanied by clergy from the Patriarchate and Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina, representing the Church of Greece.
Carrying two bundles of candles, the Patriarch emerged a few moments later, bearing the Holy Light to the patiently waiting faithful.
