Saint Gregory the Theologian wrote several letters to Saint Eusebius, expressing his deep reverence for him and seeking his prayers. Eusebius was a staunch opponent of Arianism and played a crucial role in defending the Orthodox Faith. He supported the election of Meletius as patriarch of Antioch and actively worked to strengthen the Church during times of persecution.
During the reign of Emperor Julian the Apostate, Eusebius disguised himself as a soldier to visit and support persecuted Christians in Syria, Phoenicia, and Palestine. He continued his efforts to uphold Orthodoxy, even convening a council in Antioch to condemn Arianism. Despite facing exile under Emperor Valens, Eusebius remained steadfast in his faith and eventually returned to his see in Samosata.
Tragically, Eusebius met his end while denouncing the heresy of Arius in Doliche, where he was fatally injured by a fanatical heretic. His martyrdom in the year 379 A.D. solidified his legacy as a zealous defender of the Orthodox Church. Eusebius’ unwavering commitment to the true faith serves as an inspiration for all believers.
