On September 1, 2024, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew led the Divine Liturgy of the Feast of the New Indiction at the Patriarchal Church of St. George in Phanar.
Following the blessing for the upcoming year, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Elpidophoros of America signed the Act of the New Indiction, marking the beginning of the Ecclesiastical New Year. Other Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne present at the signing included Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey, Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago, and Metropolitan Constantine of Denver.
After the signing ceremony, the Hierarchs proceeded to the Patriarchal Maraslion School for its official inauguration. Archons George Marcus and Peter Palivos, who supported the restoration, were honored during the event. The school, which recently underwent renovation, will host various ministries of the Mother Church. Notably, it hosted the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Halki Summit VI from August 29-31.
The celebration of the Feast of the New Indiction coincided with the Synaxis of Hierarchs of the Ecumenical Throne, scheduled from September 1-3. The Synaxis commenced with the Inaugural Service of the Holy Synaxis.
