TEL AVIV — Sigal Manzuri made the difficult decision not to be in Israel on Oct. 7, the anniversary of the tragic murder of her two daughters, Norelle Manzuri, 25, and Roya Manzuri, 22, at the Nova music festival. Instead, she chose to deliver a speech at the United Nations in New York, honoring their memory and spreading a message of unity.
Joined by her husband Manny and son Shai, Sigal commemorates not only Oct. 7 but also Oct. 9, 12, and 15, significant dates for the family. Their lives now revolve around preserving the legacy of Norelle, Roya, and Norelle’s boyfriend Amit Cohen, who was also a victim of the tragic event.
Sigal and Manny have left their jobs to focus on their mission from their home in Hod Hasharon. They travel to different cities to share their story and keep the memories of their loved ones alive.
Both Norelle and Roya were creative individuals with dreams of using their artistic talents in therapy. Norelle was described as a best friend to many, while Roya had a magical presence that touched everyone around her.
Marking milestones and routine events without their daughters is a painful experience for the Manzuri family. Sigal finds strength in her son Shai, who supports her through the difficult times.
While seeking justice for the tragedy, Sigal distinguishes between justice and revenge, choosing to focus on staying faithful to her heart and not losing herself in anger or questions.
Motherhood defines Sigal, and she plans to extend her role to care for her friends’ children and nephews, alongside preserving her daughters’ legacy.
“If there’s anything I’m proud of in this life, it’s my children. Nothing else in my life was ever as meaningful as them. The realization that now I’m a grieving mother is crushing.”
