A group of German researchers who attended an international conference on “The Beginnings of Christianity in Romania” were granted an audience at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest. They were welcomed in the Hall of the Romanian Saints by Patriarch Daniel, who emphasized the deep roots of Christianity in Romania.
Patriarch Daniel expressed his admiration for the collaboration between Germany and Romania and highlighted the significance of the archaeological discoveries in Dobruja. The conference, which took place at the Patriarchal Palace on Sept. 16-17, provided valuable insights into the early Christian history of Romania.
During the meeting, Patriarch Daniel showcased the Hall of the Romanian Saints, featuring prominent figures such as Saint Andrew the Apostle, Saint John Cassian, Herman of Dobruja, and Dionysius Exiguus. He also mentioned the Saints from Wallachia, Moldova, Transylvania, Banat, and Serbia, underscoring the rich Christian heritage of the region.
The German theologians, accompanied by Rev. Prof. Daniel Benga and professors from the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest, were introduced to Patriarch Daniel. They discussed the possibility of creating a publication in English or German that would showcase Romanian Christianity and include references to the symposium in Bucharest.
Patriarch Daniel suggested that the papers presented at the conference could be published by one of the publishing houses of the Romanian Patriarchate. He also encouraged Romanian theologians to work on a comprehensive book about Romanian Christianity.
The guests expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome in Bucharest and thanked Patriarch Daniel for his blessings. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with plans for future collaborations between Romanian and German scholars in the field of early church history.
