The funeral service of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania is currently taking place, led by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and attended by numerous Church leaders and official representatives.
Metropolitan Ioannis of Korçë, serving as the Locum Tenens of the Archdiocesan Throne, is joined by several Metropolitans including Demetrios of Gjirokastër, Antonios of Elbasan, Nathaniel of Berat, Astios of Amantia, and Nikolaos of Apollonia and Fier.
Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens, Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, Metropolitan George of Guinea, representing the Patriarchate of Alexandria, and Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem are among the high-ranking hierarchs present. Metropolitan Nifon of Târgoviște is also in attendance on behalf of the Patriarchate of Romania.
In recognition of Archbishop Anastasios’ significant contributions, the Prime Ministers of Greece and Albania, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Edi Rama, are present at the service along with a delegation of political figures. Greek Foreign Minister G. Gerapetritis, Defense Minister N. Dendias, Education Minister K. Pierrakakis, PASOK President Nikos Androulakis, Syriza President Socrates Famellos, MEP Freddy Beleris, and Olympic champion Pyrros Dimas are also in attendance.
To accommodate the large crowd outside the Resurrection Cathedral, a giant screen has been set up for the faithful to follow the service.
