Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki had the honor of representing Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during the inauguration of the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair on Saturday, September 7, 2024. He delivered the Patriarchal Message and Greeting to the Fair’s President, Anastasios Tzikas, and CEO, Kyriakos Pozrikidis, emphasizing the event’s significance for Thessaloniki.
The Ecumenical Patriarch stressed the connection between the economy and core values such as justice, sustainability, and respect for humanity. He highlighted the Church’s support for beneficial economic activities while condemning irresponsible economism that threatens ecological balance. The Patriarch stated that the accumulation of material wealth without addressing spiritual poverty is futile.
Additionally, the Patriarch acknowledged Germany’s role in advancing Europe and extended blessings for the Fair’s opening. He concluded by welcoming the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair and invoking God’s grace and mercy upon the organizers and visitors.
