Mark your calendars for November 5 to 7, 2024, as the Ecumenical Patriarchate is hosting an international conference in honor of the esteemed theologian, Metropolitan John D. Zizioulas of Pergamon. The event will take place at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Istanbul Hotel and is being organized in partnership with the Volos Academy for Theological Studies and the Center for Orthodox Christian Studies at Fordham University, USA. Under the guidance of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the conference aims to commemorate Metropolitan Zizioulas’s profound contributions to Orthodox theology and his visionary approach to ecumenism.
This conference will showcase the lasting impact of Metropolitan Zizioulas’s work, which has influenced theological discourse for decades and served as a cornerstone for numerous academic studies and dissertations. His writings are widely referenced in theological publications worldwide, underscoring their significance in the field.
Distinguished theologians, scholars, and religious leaders from across the globe will delve into key themes central to Zizioulas’s legacy, such as ecclesiology, theology, and ecumenism. Notable speakers include Protopresbyter Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Linos (Athens Medical School), Prof. Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou (Fordham University, USA), Rev. Hieromonk Dr. Nicholas Sakharov (Monastery of Saint John the Baptist, Essex, UK), Prof. Emeritus Paschalis Kitromilides (University of Athens), and Prof. Dr. Stylianos Tsompanidis (University of Thessaloniki, Greece). The keynote address will be delivered by His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew.
