Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived at the port of Chios yesterday afternoon to participate in a conference on climate change organized by the Region of North Aegean as part of the 3rd Chios Festival.
The Patriarch was warmly received by Konstantinos Moutzouris, the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, as well as representatives from political and military authorities. He expressed his gratitude to the Archbishop of Athens, the Metropolitan of Chios, the Regional Governor, and other officials for the invitation, as well as to P. Tsakos, an Archon of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
After the official reception, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew greeted the attending authorities and the Holy Clergy of Chios before continuing with his itinerary.
Today, on Friday, September 6, the Patriarch will visit the headquarters of the Regional Unit of Chios, where he will be presented with a commemorative gift by the Regional Governor during a special meeting of the Regional Council.
Subsequently, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will participate in and deliver the keynote address at an Environmental Conference hosted by the Region of the North Aegean. Tomorrow, he is scheduled to inaugurate the new facilities of the Hellenic Navy Academy and the Naval High School of “Tsakos Maritime Education,” established through the efforts of Captain Panagiotis Tsakos from Chios.
On Sunday, the Ecumenical Patriarch will lead the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Kallimasia. Following the service, he will hold a memorial for his predecessors from Chios, Patriarchs Ioakeim II and Ioakeim IV, and conduct a Trisagion service at the tomb of the late Patriarch Ioakeim IV. In addition, he will visit the Cemetery in Vasileoniko to perform a Trisagion service for the late Metropolitan Panteleimon of Belgium.
The Patriarch is accompanied by Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna, Metropolitan Iakovos of Mexico, Grand Ecclesiarch Aetios, Director of the Private Patriarchal Office; Patriarchal Deacon Evlogios Tsatsas; Konstantinos Delikostantis, Principal Teacher of the Greek Nation; Georgios Zeitounlou, Patriarchal Officer; and Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, who has been appointed Commissioner in the absence of the Patriarch.
