Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited “St. Basil’s” Nursing Home in Randwick on Thursday, October 10, 2024, where he emphasized the importance of the elderly in society. He praised the historical significance of “St. Basil’s Homes” and its role in caring for the elderly, inspired by the legacy of Saint Basil the Great.
Patriarch Bartholomew commended the efforts of Archbishop Ezekiel in founding “St. Basil’s Homes” in Australia and highlighted the growth of the facility into a modern social care institution. He acknowledged the support of Archbishops Ezekiel, Stylianos, and Makarios in continuing and expanding the services provided to the elderly.
The Patriarch emphasized the valuable role of the elderly as pillars of society, offering wisdom and guidance to younger generations. He stressed that caring for the elderly is a moral obligation, not charity, due to their lifelong contributions.
Patriarch Bartholomew expressed gratitude to the staff and leadership of “St. Basil’s Homes” for their dedicated work and extended blessings to all present. He reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to supporting the elderly and promoting social solidarity and Christian love towards those in need.
