The Greek city of Arta, known for its rich history and cultural heritage, received a special guest on Saturday morning, June 29, 2024, as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited. The visit was a momentous occasion for the local community, bringing a sense of spiritual uplift and hope.
Prior to 9 am local time, at the entrance of the Holy Church of Maximos the Greek, the Patriarch was warmly welcomed by Metropolitan Kallinikos of Arta. Also present were MP Giorgos Stylios, Deputy Regional Governor of Arta Vassilis Psathas, Mayor Christoforos Siafakas, and Deputy Minister of Labour Kostas Karagounis, emphasizing the significance and broad support for the visit, as reported by arta2today.gr.
Following the official reception, a Patriarchal Co-liturgy was held at the Church of Maximos the Greek. The atmosphere was filled with reverence and emotion as believers from across Arta gathered to participate and receive the Patriarch’s blessing. Psalms and hymns echoed through the temple, creating a deeply spiritual environment.
Arta, with its historical and traditional importance, once again showcased its ability to host significant spiritual events, solidifying its position as a hub of religious and cultural heritage in Greece. The Patriarch’s presence will be commemorated through events that reflect the deep reverence and respect the people of Arta have for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarch himself.
During the official ceremony, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be granted honorary citizenship of the city. Additionally, a new square named “Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I Square” will be unveiled to mark this momentous visit.
