Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew condemned the heinous attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany, during his homily on the Sunday before Christmas. He reiterated the strong stance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate against all forms of violence.
He emphasized the importance of living for Christ and reflecting on the purpose of Christ’s incarnation for the salvation of humankind. The Patriarch expressed sympathy for the victims and their families affected by the tragic event in Germany.
Additionally, he showed solidarity with those suffering from war in Ukraine and the Middle East, especially with the ancient Patriarchates of Antioch and Jerusalem and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew also congratulated Metropolitan Athenagoras of Kydonia and the ecclesiastical community of Neochorion for their dedicated work. He welcomed pilgrims from abroad, including students from a school in Alexandroupolis, and highlighted the significance of the Holy Twelve Days of Christmas.

Nicholas Kalamaris, representing the President of the Ecclesiastical Committee, attended an event where students from the 4th Primary School of Alexandroupolis sang traditional carols and Christmas songs for His All-Holiness.
