On Thursday, October 17, the Parish of Saints Constantine and Helen in South Yarra, Melbourne, warmly welcomed Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Joined by Archbishop Makarios of Australia and his distinguished group, the Patriarch received words of respect and devotion from Fr. Panteleimon Laskaris, highlighting the unwavering spiritual support the local community has received from the Ecumenical Patriarchate since the church’s establishment in the 1960s.
After the service, the Patriarch visited the parish hall to meet with volunteers of the charity program “Five Loaves,” gaining insight into its meaningful work from Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne. He expressed his paternal joy with the program, commending its inclusivity in providing essential assistance to all, regardless of background or faith. “The Church always extends its help and support without discrimination,” the Patriarch stated, emphasizing the message of the Good Samaritan.
Metropolitan Kyrillos of Imbros and Tenedos also shared his admiration, praising the resilience, love for Christ, and commitment to serving those in need within the Greek Diaspora. He underscored that a heart filled with love for Christ can spread this love to others, emphasizing the importance of selfless service.
This visit, infused with profound spiritual significance and messages of charity, further showcased the strong bond between the local Greek Orthodox community and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
