During his visit to the island of Chios, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew toured the “St. Agapitos” Library of the Metropolis of Chios this morning.
The visit was attended by Greek MPs from the Prefecture, the Regional Governor, Mayors of the surrounding islands, the library’s donor, shipowner G. Prokopios, and many other distinguished guests. Metropolitan Markos of Chios warmly welcomed the Patriarch and guided him through the Library’s facilities, as reported by alitheia.gr.
The Patriarch’s visit was a significant occasion, strengthening connections with the local community and highlighting the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
Ecumenical Patriarch visits the Regional Unit of Chios, as part of his visit on the island
Earlier in the morning, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited the Regional Unit of Chios on Friday morning, following an invitation from the Regional Governor of North Aegean, Kostas Moutzouris, and his wife, Dimitra.
According to politischios.gr, the visit proved pivotal for the region, strengthening its warm relationship with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and fostering dialogue on significant social and environmental issues, particularly the climate crisis. Renowned globally for his environmental advocacy, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has earned the title of “Green Patriarch” due to his initiatives in environmental protection.
During the meeting, both the Regional Governor Kostas Moutzouris and members of the Regional Council expressed their gratitude for the Patriarch’s presence and insightful remarks on the climate crisis. Governor Moutzouris, in a heartfelt address, underscored the honor of hosting the Patriarch and presented him with an engolpion as a symbol of respect and appreciation.
In response, the Ecumenical Patriarch conveyed his pleasure at returning to the picturesque island of Chios. He emphasized the significance of the region’s scientific conference focused on climate change and commended the local community and institutional bodies for their efforts in organizing this crucial event. The Patriarch noted that the program of his visit, filled with lovingly organized events, would leave a lasting impression on his heart and memory.
It is recalled that Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived yesterday afternoon at the port of Chios to attend and speak at a conference dedicated to climate change, organized by the Region of North Aegean as part of the 3rd Chios Festival.
