Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived at the port of Chios this afternoon to participate in a conference on climate change organized by the Region of North Aegean as part of the 3rd Chios Festival.
The Patriarch received a warm welcome from Konstantinos Moutzouris, the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, and other political and military representatives. He expressed gratitude to the Archbishop of Athens, the Metropolitan of Chios, the Regional Governor, and other authorities for the invitation, as well as to P. Tsakos, an Archon of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Students from the Naval High School served as crew members on the boat MANIA, which transported the Patriarch and his entourage from Cesme to the port of Chios. Upon arrival, a military contingent greeted the Patriarch with honors. He then paid his respects before the national flag while the Greek National Anthem played.
After the official reception, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew met with the attending authorities and the Holy Clergy of Chios before continuing with his schedule.
Tomorrow, the Patriarch will visit the Regional Unit of Chios headquarters to receive a commemorative gift from the Regional Governor during a special meeting of the Regional Council.
The afternoon will feature the climate change conference with speakers such as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, former President of the Hellenic Republic Professor Prokopis Pavlopoulos, and Christos Zerefos, Secretary General of the Academy of Athens.
Following the conference, Patriarch Bartholomew will be honored as the honorary president of the Library of the Holy Metropolis of Chios, “Saint Agapitos.”
