A Doxology was conducted at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 10.00 am to commemorate the 19th enthronement anniversary of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem. His Beatitude presided over the service, joined by the High Priests of the Throne, Holy Sepulchre Hieromonks, Deacons, and Priests from various parishes. The Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, Mr. Dimitrios Anengelosopoulos, Mrs. Anna Mantika, and faithful from Jerusalem were also in attendance.
Following the Doxology, all attendees proceeded to the Patriarchate Reception Hall, where Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina and Chief Secretary, delivered an address to His Beatitude. He highlighted the significant challenges faced by the Church of Jerusalem and the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood, particularly during the period leading up to Patriarch Theophilos’ enthronement.
Archbishop Aristarchos praised His Beatitude’s efforts in preserving the property rights of the Patriarchate and the Status Quo of the Holy Places in Jerusalem. He also commended Patriarch Theophilos for his work in promoting unity among Orthodox Churches and fostering interfaith dialogue.
The Archbishop further acknowledged the Patriarch’s dedication to the restoration and conservation of significant Christian sites, such as the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. He also lauded His Beatitude’s efforts in advocating for the rights of the Christian community in the Holy Land amidst ongoing conflicts and challenges.
In conclusion, Archbishop Aristarchos expressed gratitude for Patriarch Theophilos’ leadership and emphasized the importance of his work in upholding the traditions and values of the Church of Jerusalem. The elegance of the Catholicon of the Church was significantly improved by the addition of beautiful chandeliers, creating a serene atmosphere in our sacred space. Additionally, the meticulous upkeep of the one hundred canticles adorning the large 19th-century Russian-made dome added to the overall grandeur of the church.
Under the leadership of Your Beatitude, renovation efforts continued seamlessly with the expertise of conservator Mr. Stavros Andreou, focusing on preserving icons and manuscripts in the Archives and library buildings. Plans are also underway for the establishment of a Museum in the residence of the revered Patriarch of Jerusalem Diodorus, showcasing ancient icons and valuable ecclesiastical artifacts that highlight the cultural heritage of the Patriarchate in the Holy Land. Furthermore, a Theological Research center is in the works at the historic Monastery of the Holy Cross, along with the development of the surrounding agricultural land, a vision initiated by the blessed Patriarch of Jerusalem Benedictus.
These endeavors are just a glimpse into the profound spiritual legacy of Your Beatitude’s pastoral and administrative endeavors, aimed not at self-glorification but at uniting the Holy Sepulchre Fathers in solidarity to further the mission of the Church. As we raise our glasses in honor of Your Beatitude, may you be blessed with continued health, peace, happiness, stability, and divine guidance in steering the Church of Jerusalem towards salvation, bringing glory to our blessed nation and the Triune God. Amen.
