The Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos was joyously celebrated in Cairo.
A special Hierarchical Vespers service took place at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Ilioupoli, led by Bishop Stefanos of Hippo. The Divine Liturgy was also presided over by Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, and several priests from the region. The service concluded with a reverent procession of the holy icon in the church courtyard.
Bishop Stefanos of Hippo delivered a heartfelt address to the congregation, focusing on the Virgin Mary’s role as a constant intercessor for all. He emphasized her unwavering support for spiritual growth and daily needs.
On the morning of the feast day, Archimandrite Joachim officiated the solemn Divine Liturgy at the Community Church of Saints Constantine and Helen. The Protopsaltes of the Greek Community of Cairo, Alexandros Rigakis, chanted hymns dedicated to the Most Holy Theotokos during the service.
Fr. Joachim referred to the Virgin Mary as the Mother of all with deep emotion, encouraging the faithful to turn to her with their prayers and needs, confident in her intercession with the Lord. He also conveyed the warm wishes of Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis.
Representatives from the Greek Community of Cairo, including Vice-President Chrysanthi Skoufaridou, and the Consul General of Greece in Cairo, Despina Hasirtzoglou, were present at the celebrations.
Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis led a solemn Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Virgin Mary in Heliopolis, emphasizing the significance of the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in bringing joy and hope to believers.
He expressed gratitude to the Chargé d’affaires of the Greek Embassy, Athanasios Leousis, for attending and extended blessings for the journey of life under the protection of the Virgin Mary.
