On Saturday, May 25, 2024, the Catechetical team from the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi visited Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Led by Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi, children, young people, and their parents paid their respects at the end of their lessons.
The Metropolitan, visibly excited about the future of the Greek Diaspora, presented the catechetical work of the Holy Metropolis. Following his presentation, parents spoke on behalf of the children and young people. The Ecumenical Patriarch praised the efforts of the Metropolis, describing the Shepherd and his associates as worthy stewards of the region’s morals, customs, and traditions.
In support of the project, the Ecumenical Patriarch emphasized the importance of engaging with children and young people, and learning the Greek language, countering the view that these activities are of secondary importance.
At the conclusion of the visit, the children presented a basket of traditional products to the Ecumenical Patriarch, who in turn distributed sweets and souvenirs to everyone. After their visit to the Patriarchate, the group visited the Holy Church of the Virgin Mary of Blachernae, traversing the alleys of the Phanar.
