The Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has issued an appeal for peace amidst the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip.
The Synod emphasized the diverse cultural landscape of the Holy Land, which is home to Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities. However, it expressed concern that this rich tapestry of coexistence is being threatened by hatred and violence, leading to a destructive cycle with unpredictable outcomes.
In a show of solidarity, the Synod extended its support to the Church of Jerusalem, including Patriarch Theophilos III, Archbishop Alexios of Tiberias, and the suffering Christian community in Gaza, referring to them as the enduring flock of the ‘Mother of Churches’.
Seeking divine intervention, the Synod invoked the protection, strength, and mercy of God for all Christians and individuals in the region, with a special plea to the Virgin Mary and Saint Porphyrios of Gaza. Additionally, it called upon global organizations and political leaders to take prompt and decisive actions towards peace negotiations and conflict resolution.
The address concluded with a heartfelt prayer for the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ to illuminate every human heart and prevail in the region.

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you (John 14:27)
From ancient times to the present, the Holy Land has been a melting pot of various cultures, religions, and traditions.
Today, Israel and Palestine remain a diverse mosaic of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities, each adding a unique hue to the tapestry of the region.
Central to peaceful coexistence has been mutual respect for each other’s freedoms and rights. Sadly, the current climate of animosity is eroding this foundation, leading to conflict and devastation in the Holy Land.
These escalating tensions risk spiraling into a cycle of violence with grave consequences. History serves as a stark reminder that unchecked aggression can result in immense suffering.
As Orthodox Christians, we stand in solidarity with our brethren enduring hardship in the Gaza Strip.
We offer our unwavering support to Patriarch Theophilus III of Jerusalem, Archbishop Alexios of Tiberias, and the resilient Christian community in Gaza.
In fervent prayer, we beseech God, through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and Saint Porphyrios, to safeguard and uplift all individuals in Gaza, Israel, and Palestine.
We urge international bodies, policymakers, and leaders to intervene decisively to bring an end to the conflict and initiate peace talks.
May the peace of Bethlehem, brought forth by the Lord Jesus Christ for our salvation, illuminate every heart, reign supreme, and never depart from us!
