The Bishops’ Conference met on February 12, 2025, in Helsinki for the first time with Archbishop Elia leading the conference.
Under Archbishop Elia’s leadership, the conference format has changed. Instead of quick decision-making, the bishops will now dedicate a full day to discussing important Church issues.
Furthermore, the Bishops’ Conference will not only take place in Helsinki but will also be held in Kuopio and Oulu at least once a year, increasing accessibility and engagement.
Increased Liturgical Presence
In addition to structural changes, the bishops will increase their joint liturgical presence. Services will be conducted together in different dioceses, with a schedule already set for this year and more details to follow.
This new approach aims to promote collegiality among the bishops, strengthen pastoral outreach, and encourage unity within the Finnish Orthodox Church.
