After the Patriarchal Synod’s decision on February 15, 2024, to separate the Holy Metropolis of Burundi from the state of Rwanda and establish the Holy Diocese of Rwanda as an independent ecclesiastical province of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa appointed Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba and Western Tanzania as the interim Patriarchal Commissioner of the Holy Diocese of Rwanda. His role is to address the immediate needs of the newly established Holy Diocese until the election and appointment of its new head.
