The Community of Birmingham recently honored the memory of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke with great solemnity and reverence. Bishop Maximos of Melitene presided over the sacred services and feast, accompanied by clergymen from the surrounding areas.
During Vespers on the eve of the feast, the faithful gathered for the traditional Artoklasia, creating an atmosphere of devotion and anticipation. Protopresbyter Stephen Maxfield delivered a powerful sermon, bringing to life the teachings of Saint Luke.
Bishop Maximos then delivered a profound homily, highlighting Saint Luke’s significant contributions to the Church as both an Evangelist and historian, emphasizing the value of his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.
A touching moment of the celebration was the presence of a relic of Saint Luke the Apostle, brought to Birmingham by Bishop Maximos from the Holy Metropolis of Kition. The faithful had the opportunity to venerate the relic, offering prayers for healing and guidance.
The festivities continued throughout the weekend, concluding on Sunday, October 20, 2024. Official meals were hosted on Friday, October 18, and Sunday, October 20, fostering fellowship among community members.
