On Saturday, 28th December 2024, during the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St Demetrios in Enfield, Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain ordained Deacon Gregory Craveiro to the Holy Priesthood.
The ordination took place amidst the joyous participation of clergy and faithful, marking a significant moment for the Archdiocese.
Bishop Iakovos of Claudiopolis concelebrated with Archbishop Nikitas. Among those serving were Archimandrite Nephon Tsimalis, Protosyngellus, Archimandrite Dr. Nikodemos Anagnostopoulos, Priest in charge, and numerous clergy of the Archdiocese.
During the ordination service, Deacon Gregory Craveiro addressed Archbishop Nikitas with humility and gratitude, reflecting on the immense responsibility of the Holy Priesthood. He acknowledged the example of the Saints who, despite their own sense of unworthiness, accepted the grace of God to fulfill their ministry. Deacon Gregory expressed his thanks to Archbishop Nikitas for his trust and guidance, as well as to his family, clergy, and faithful who supported him throughout his journey.
In response, Archbishop Nikitas offered a deeply inspiring reflection on the calling of the priesthood, emphasising God’s transformative grace. His Eminence reminded Deacon Gregory of the sacred mission he now joins, comparing it to the work of Christ’s disciples, who carried the Gospel to the world despite being few in number. He urged Deacon Gregory to remain humble, steadfast in his service, and faithful to the traditions of the Church. Reflecting on the spiritual thirst of those in Cambridge and beyond, His Eminence encouraged him to preach and teach with love, sharing the treasures of Orthodoxy with those seeking salvation.
Archbishop Nikitas concluded with a call to embrace this ministry with dedication, serving each liturgy as if it were both the first and the last, always striving to glorify God and serve His people.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the faithful, together with the Parish Council and clergy, offered their warm wishes to the newly ordained priest. A festive reception in the community hall concluded the day, celebrating this momentous occasion in the life of the Archdiocese.
