On Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the feast of St. Charitina and St. Methodia of Kimolos, Archbishop Sotirios of Canada chaired a meeting of the new Archdiocesan Philoptochos Council.
Approximately two dozen women from across the country gathered at the Archdiocese’s headquarters in Toronto for productive discussions about current initiatives and future projects for this most important philanthropic organization of the Church in Canada.
The new members, led by President Zoe Veroutis, who is commencing her second term, participated in the swearing-in by reciting the oath of office. Bishop Athenagoras of Patara and Rev. Fr. Kosta Chialtas were also present.
A wonderful luncheon was served in the hall of the Archdiocese, where His Eminence delivered fatherly words of encouragement.
It should be noted that St. Philothei the Righteous Martyr of Athens, who is commemorated each year with a Divine Liturgy at the Chapel dedicated to her memory at the St. Nicholas Cathedral, is the Patron Saint of the Philoptochos across Canada.
