Archbishop Sotirios presided over the Archdiocesan Council Meeting at the Headquarters of the Church in Canada in Toronto on October 7, 2024.
Participants included Bishop Athenagoras of Patara, Consul General of Greece in Toronto Ioannis Chatzantonakis, representing the Ambassador of Greece Mrs. Ekaterina Dimakis, the Executive of the Archdiocesan Board of Directors, and members of the Council from across Canada.
The Archbishop began the meeting with prayer and gratitude to God, discussing the 2025 theme of the Archdiocese: “… Make full proof of thy ministry” (2 Timothy 4:5). Written reports were presented by department leads and ministries of the Church in Canada, followed by constructive and cordial discussions among Council members.
Lunch was served in the Archdiocese hall, where Consul General Chatzantonakis praised the Archbishop and the Archdiocese for their efforts in promoting Orthodoxy and Hellenism in Canada.
On October 8th to October 10th, all active Reverend Fathers in Canada gathered in Kingston for the annual Synaxis. The Archbishop led discussions on important issues concerning the Church in Canada, with decisions made collectively by the clergy.
Traditionally, an evening Divine Liturgy was held at the local parish community of Koimisis Tis Theotokou, followed by a dinner organized by the community council and Philoptochos chapter for clergy and parishioners, with gratitude expressed for their contributions. The meetings concluded with the Archbishop conveying the love and blessings of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and chanting the fimi of the Patriarch.
