The Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Khaled Mubarak, met with Archbishop Damianos of Sinai at his residence in Athens, in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador to Greece, Omar Amer.
This meeting was part of the ongoing communication and coordination efforts to strengthen the historical ties between the South Sinai Administration and St. Catherine’s Monastery.
Dr. Khaled Mubarak emphasized the importance of cooperation with the monastery, recognizing its significance as a religious and historical symbol. He commended the efforts to preserve its rich heritage.
The development of the area surrounding St. Catherine’s Monastery aims to showcase its spiritual importance as a place of “Great Revelation” and transform it into a global tourist destination that reflects its historical and cultural value.
Archbishop Damianos expressed gratitude for the commitment to develop the city of St. Catherine, supported by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. He expressed hope for continued cooperation to enhance the monastery for visitors worldwide.
He also accepted the governor’s invitation to visit upon his return from Greece.
At the end of the meeting, both sides exchanged gifts, with the governor presenting a miniature of the Monastery of St. Catherine as a token of ongoing cooperation and appreciation for their historical and cultural ties.
