Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece met with Firas Al Rashidi, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Syrian Arab Republic in Greece, at the Archdiocese of Athens.
During the meeting, Mr. Al Rashidi expressed gratitude to the Archbishop for the warm reception and highlighted the strong historical ties between Greece and Syria. He provided an update on the situation in Syria following the regime change, expressing optimism for an era of peaceful development that will see Syria regain its lost glory.
Archbishop Ieronymos shared insights from his frequent communication with Patriarch John X of Antioch and the heads of other Christian denominations in Syria and the broader region. He expressed hope for a new period of peaceful coexistence among religious communities in the country.
The Archbishop underscored Syria’s profound Christian heritage, dating back to the early years of Christianity, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding this legacy. He noted, “The Christian homeland must be protected, so that all people may enjoy respect for human rights, which serve as the foundation for sustainable peace and the restoration of social cohesion in Syria.”
