LAST UPDATE 18:27
The health condition of Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania has been deemed “critical” by the doctors overseeing his care.
A new statement issued by “Evangelismos” Hospital confirms that the Archbishop’s current state is critical, as assessed by the attending medical team.
Earlier reports had indicated a significant deterioration in the Archbishop’s health.
Since December 30, Archbishop Anastasios had been hospitalized in a hospital in Tirana due to a viral infection. However, his health further deteriorated, with symptoms of gastrorrhagia, prompting the decision to transfer him to Evangelismos Hospital for advanced medical care.
The air evacuation was carried out by a C-27 aircraft of the Hellenic Air Force. The Archbishop was accompanied by a medical team, including a doctor and two rescuers from National Emergency Aid Centre’s Flying Health Personnel Team.
The aircraft landed at the military airport in Elefsina at 19:34 on Thursday evening. From there, the Archbishop was immediately transported by ambulance to Evangelismos Hospital, where he continues to receive medical attention.
