Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece led the sanctification service to kick off the new academic year at the University of Athens headquarters this morning.
The service was attended by University Rector Prof. Gerasimos Siasos, Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Lifelong Learning Associate Prof. Christos Karagiannis, as well as high-ranking officials including Nikos Papaioannou, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, representing Greek Minister of Education Kyriakos Pierrakakis. Professors and staff of the University also participated.
Accompanied by Archimandrite Varnavas Theocharis, Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Athens, Archbishop Ieronymos was warmly welcomed by Rector Siasos and Vice Rector Karagiannis.
In his address after the service, the Archbishop offered wishes for both spiritual and physical well-being to all, highlighting the importance of courage and perseverance in challenging times. Drawing from his teaching experience, he encouraged overcoming obstacles through patience and dedication.
The Rector expressed thanks to the Archbishop, the Secretary General, and the Professors, and extended best wishes for the new academic year. Mr. Papaioannou also conveyed good wishes for the upcoming year and shared greetings from the Minister of Education.
