Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece met with Dr. Jerry Pillay, the Secretary General of the World Council of Churches (WCC), along with other dignitaries today. The meeting was attended by Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia, Protopresbyter Emmanuel Papamikroulis, Secretary of the Synodal Committee on Inter-Orthodox and Inter-Christian Relations, and Fr. Varnavas Theocharis, the Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.
Archbishop Ieronymos welcomed Dr. Pillay warmly and discussed the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. Dr. Pillay shared insights from his recent visit to Gaza and emphasized the need for peace in the region. He also talked about the WCC’s efforts to promote dialogue and peace in other conflict-ridden areas like Sudan and Colombia.
Archbishop Ieronymos expressed his gratitude for Dr. Pillay’s visit and acknowledged the challenges posed by global divisions. He emphasized the importance of working together to address these divisions and promote peace. The Archbishop highlighted the need for effective communication and the avoidance of creating further divisions.
