Under the blessings of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria, a significant series of ordinations took place in the Diocese of Malawi, strengthening the clergy. One Deacon was ordained as a Presbyter, while three Readers were ordained as Deacons and Presbyters.
The ordinations occurred as follows:
- October 26, 2024: Reader Basil was ordained as Deacon at the Church of St. Nektarios in Blantyre.
- November 2, 2024: Deacon Fr. Alexios was ordained as Presbyter and Reader Nicholas was ordained as Deacon at the Church of St. Catherine.
- November 3, 2024: Deacon Nicholas was ordained as Presbyter and Reader Gabriel was ordained as Deacon at the Church of the Resurrection in Bayani.
- November 8, 2024: Deacon Basil was ordained as Presbyter and Catechist Nektarios was promoted to Reader at the Church of the Archangels in Phalombe.
- November 10, 2024: On the feast of Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, Deacon Gabriel was promoted to Presbyter.
These ordinations not only reflect the growth of the Orthodox Church in the region but also address the urgent pastoral needs of the local community.
Archimandrite Fr. Ioannikios from the Metropolis of Florina played a significant role, offering valuable support to the Diocese with the permission of Metropolitan Irenaeus of Florina. This support is crucial for the Diocese, which requires more clergy to fulfill its spiritual and pastoral mission.
These ordinations signify a new era for the Diocese, enhancing its ability to serve the faithful and expand its missionary work in the region.
