The introduction of modern tourism infrastructure on Mount Athos has sparked significant discussion and controversy.
According to reports from OPEN TV and the website tilegrafimanews.gr, a new hotel has opened in the port of Daphne, offering amenities such as massage services and a restaurant. The facility, located in the old Samaradiko area, charges 40 euros per night for accommodation.
The hotel’s booking policy restricts stays to men, specifically workers on Mount Athos, monks, or pilgrims, in line with the monastic traditions of the area.
This is not the first instance of commercial ventures on Mount Athos, often referred to as the “Orchard of the Virgin Mary.” The community has previously seen the opening of a supermarket and a restaurant serving traditional Athonite dishes.
