The feast day of the Holy and Divine Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council was celebrated with great splendor on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the namesake church in the city of Shrewsbury in central England.
Bishop Maximos of Melitene visited the parish and presided over the Divine Liturgy.
During the Liturgy, the Bishop delivered a sermon and, on behalf of the Archdiocese, honored Mr. Christopher David Lewis, a long-time reader and benefactor of the English-speaking Community of Shrewsbury, with the Archdiocesan Cross of Christ the Savior. He also conveyed blessings from Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain to Mr. Lewis and the faithful in attendance.
Bishop Maximos praised Mr. Lewis for his dedication and service to the Community in Shrewsbury and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, highlighting his humility and commitment.
The Orthodox Community of 318 Fathers of the First Ecumenical Synod of Shrewsbury has seen significant growth in the past two years and is actively involved in charitable activities across Central England.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the entire community enjoyed a gathering in the churchyard.
