A presentation of the newly released study on Hieromonk Eusevios Vittis, titled “The Pastoral Ministry of Archimandrite Eusevios Vittis in Scandinavia 1965-1980,” took place on Sunday, May 26, 2024. This event was part of the celebrations marking the tenth anniversary of His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia as Archpastor of the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s Eparchy in the Northern Lands.
The study is dedicated to Elder Eusevios Vittis, a revered clergyman who spread the love of Christ in Scandinavia between 1965-1980. He was a prominent spiritual figure of the Orthodox Church and one of the first clergymen to serve in the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia.
The volume includes letters of blessing and a foreword by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, Archbishop Demetrios formerly of America, and Metropolitan Agathangelos of Fanarion. These leaders praised Fr. Eusevios’ missionary zeal and spiritual impact.
The study, sponsored by Apostoliki Diakonia, provides a comprehensive look into Fr. Eusevios’ life and ministry. Metropolitan Cleopas conducted extensive research in various archives to compile this detailed account of the revered clergyman’s legacy.
Fr. Eusevios Vittis wrote 28 articles under the title “A Letter for You – Each Month,” published in the Swedish Orthodox periodical Ortodox Kyrkotidning. This collection is divided into six chapters, covering various aspects of Fr. Eusevios Vittis’ life and work from 1965-1980. The first chapter focuses on his priestly ministry, including his pastoral visits, promotion proposals, salary, and the establishment of the St. Nicholas Hermitage in Rättvik. The second chapter delves into his unpublished correspondence found in various archives. The third chapter explores Fr. Eusevios Vittis’ sermons and publications during this period. The fourth chapter highlights the Thyranoixia service for the St. Nicholas Hermitage. The fifth chapter includes references to his ministry and hermitage from different individuals. The sixth chapter serves as an appendix, featuring articles, documents, and photos related to Fr. Eusevios Vittis. Metropolitan Agathangelos oversaw the cover page, and the portrait of Fr. Eusevios Vittis was painted by the Androutsos brothers from Greece.
