On June 1, 2024, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine met with the team behind the Ukrainian feature film “Slovo House: Unfinished Novel,” which focuses on the era of the “Executed Renaissance.”
The Metropolitan welcomed director Taras Tomenko, producers Yuliia Cherniavska and Oleh Shcherbyna, and actors Nina Naboka and Viacheslav Dovzhenko. Also present at the meeting were Abbot Feodosij (Liakhovych) of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery and Deacon Rostyslav Martynjuk.
During their discussion, they highlighted the importance of uniting all Ukrainians to combat the Russian aggressor and emphasized the significance of promoting Ukrainian history and culture, especially through films that showcase important events and figures in Ukraine.
The filmmakers shared that their film portrays the flourishing of Ukrainian art in the 1920s and 1930s, a period marked by challenges that demonstrated the strength of the Ukrainian spirit and resistance against the oppressive Soviet regime.
Metropolitan Epifaniy stressed the crucial role of popularizing Ukrainian culture, particularly the significant and tragic “Executed Renaissance” period, in preserving and enriching Ukraine’s national heritage to safeguard it from external threats.
Additionally, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine honored the guests with prestigious church awards.
