A new Romanian parish has been established in Aylesbury, UK. The Romanian Orthodox Auxiliary Bishop of Italy, Atanasie of Bogdania, led the Divine Liturgy in the new community on Sunday.
The parish is dedicated to the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women. Bishop Atanasie of Bogdania appointed Priest Iulian Rusu as the parish priest and ordained a deacon for the Romanian parish in Oxford.
The Tronos Psaltic Group from the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, Romania provided the liturgical responses.
Bishop Atanasie highlighted the significance of understanding the Mystery of the Resurrection through the example of the Myrrh-bearing women, who demonstrated fearlessness, faithfulness, and unwavering commitment by standing with Christ through His Passion, death, and being the first to experience the joy of the Resurrection.
The establishment of the new parish was approved by His Eminence Joseph, Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe.
The first religious service in the Aylesbury community took place on November 28, 2018, in honor of the Centenary of the Great Union of Romania. On Christmas Eve of the same year, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated, with approximately 80 Romanian faithful in attendance.
A Romanian Orthodox mission has been ongoing in the community since then, with regular services held on major holidays.
