On May 10, 2024, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine held a regular meeting at the Metropolitan House in St Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral. All members of the Synod were present at the meeting.
Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine presented a detailed report on his recent visit to Geneva, Switzerland, on April 10, 2024. He shared insights from the meetings held at the World Council of Churches, the Ecumenical Institute at Château de Bossey, and the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambesy.
Upon a proposal from the Synodal Calendar Commission, the Holy Synod approved a local commemoration in the Kyiv Eparchy on July 16th, following the feast of Prince Volodymyr, the Council of Kyivan Saints.
In response to requests from Metropolitan Andriy of Halych and Archbishop Herman of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Novoushytskyi, the Holy Synod granted permission for the establishment of men’s monasteries in their respective eparchies and appointed leaders for these monasteries.
The Synod also addressed the administrative changes in the Poltava Eparchy and approved amendments to its statute.
The next Bishops’ Council is scheduled for May 11, 2024, in Kyiv, where the Primate will present a report on the developments within the Local Church since the Local Council in July 2023. The Council will also discuss and endorse resolutions regarding the condemnation of the ‘Russian world’ doctrine and other key decisions made by the Holy Synod.
After thorough deliberations, the Holy Synod unanimously endorsed all resolutions and draft documents slated for submission to the Council of Bishops.
