A few years back, during Chol HaMoed Pesach, the Staum family had a blast at an indoor rock-climbing facility. With walls going up to forty feet high, each climb offered its own set of challenges and difficulty levels. I even managed to climb one of the walls myself, ringing the bell at the top to proudly announce my accomplishment.
Watching our kids tackle the different climbs was a joy. Our five-year-old daughter, Chayala, stood out to me. Despite not making it to the top, she kept at it, never letting initial failures deter her. Her determination and persistence were inspiring, reminding me that success comes from continuous effort.
In a speech at Rice University in 1962, President Kennedy spoke about America’s ambition to reach the moon before the end of the century. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but emphasized the importance of taking on difficult tasks for the sake of progress and growth.
Just like rock climbing, life’s achievements require effort, persistence, and a willingness to step out of one’s comfort zone. The journey may involve setbacks and slips, but as long as one stays focused and determined, reaching the top is possible.
Growth and greatness come from pushing past limitations and embracing challenges. It’s the discomfort and struggles that lead to personal development and a sense of accomplishment. Remember, everyone’s definition of success is different, and reaching your own “top” is worth celebrating.
