The Palm Sunday celebration at the venerable Patriarchal Church of Saint George the Great Martyr, the seat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate at the Phanar, was marked by solemnity and reverence. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the Divine Liturgy from the throne, accompanied by several Metropolitan leaders. Deacon Father Oikoumenios Amanatidis delivered the Holy Sermon as per Church tradition. The event was attended by Monks of Mount Athos, Archons of the Great Church of Christ, Consuls General of Greece and Ukraine, and the Mayor of Chania, among others. Panagiotis Simandirakis, accompanied by officials from the Municipality, a delegation from the AHEPA Branch of Vari, Voula, and Vouliagmeni, as well as a group of devout believers from Constantinople and other places, attended the Divine Liturgy Dismissal.
Following the service, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew distributed blessed palms to all the attendees. On Saturday afternoon, he led the Vespers Service of Palm Sunday, during which he ordained Hieromonk Father Alexios Demirtzis as Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne. Father Alexios will also serve as Parish Priest of the Community of Saint Dimitrios in the Tataoula district.
On Sunday afternoon, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided over the Service of the Matins of Great and Holy Monday, also known as the Service of the Bridegroom.
