Beloved in the Lord,
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in His infinite love and mercy for all humanity, has once again allowed us to enter the most beautiful and spiritually uplifting week of the year. As we transition from Great Lent to the beginning of Holy Week, we are reminded of the path that leads us to Palm Sunday and the emotional journey of Holy Week.
I urge all of you, as individuals, families, and members of the Greek Orthodox community in Canada, to cherish and make the most of the next seven days. Let us hold on to our Orthodox faith, following the footsteps of our ancestors who stood firm in their beliefs. Despite the challenges and turmoil in society, do not lose hope. With Christ by our side, we have nothing to fear.
During this Holy Week, let us dedicate more time to attending church services. As St. John Chrysostom said, “The Church is your hope, your salvation, higher than the heavens.” Let us also participate in confession and receive Holy Communion, following the footsteps of the saints who found strength in these sacraments.
Let us carry our liturgical books and immerse ourselves in the prayers of the Church, allowing them to uplift our spirits. Let us gather as a family to receive the anointing of Holy Unction on Holy Wednesday, following the guidance of St. James.
As we bow before the Crucified Christ, let us remember His love and forgiveness even in His suffering. Let us show love to one another, following the commandment of Jesus Christ.
May we approach the resurrectional hymns with a true Christian spirit, celebrating the Feast of feasts with joy and gratitude. Let us prioritize our relationship with Christ and our faith during this week, so that we may proclaim with joy that Christ is Risen!
With love and blessings,
Archbishop Sotirios of Canada
